Abstract
In the Spectral Multiple-Relaxation-Time (SMRT) collision model recently developed in the context of lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM) [2], the distribution function is first expanded in terms of Hermite polynomials in the references frame moving with the fluid and then decomposed into traceless tensor components corresponding to the irreducible representation (irreps) of the SO(3) group. These components are then relaxed individually which allows LBM to have decoupled shear and bulk viscosity, thermal diusivity, and other transport coefficients. Here we point out that the SMRT model is a LBM incarnation of the eigen-function collision model of Grad [1]. Results of recent computation of strong shock waves will also be presented.

About Prof. Shan
单教授目前是北师港浸大高等研究院的特聘教授。他分别于1985年和1988年从北京大学获得学士和硕士学位,1991年从达特茅斯学院获得博士学位。从1991年到2012年,他在美国的洛斯阿拉莫斯国家实验室、微软和Exa 公司(现为达索系统SE的一部分)工作。2012年加入中国商用飞机公司(COMAC)北京研究中心,担任气动和声学研究部负责人。2016年加入南方科技大学创办了力学与航空航天工程系。单博士因他于1993年共同发明的Shan-Chen非理想气体格子玻尔兹曼模型而闻名,发表在《Physical Review E》上的原始论文2018年被选为庆祝该杂志25周年的25个里程碑之一。2009年因在多相和复杂流体的格子玻尔兹曼模型的提出和应用方面的开创性贡献,以及在基于格子玻尔兹曼方法的流体动力学算法在实际工程应用中的开创性工作当选为美国物理学会会士。
